A MATTER OF WATTS
In 2019, Áspero took the world by storm by heralding a "new era of speed in gravel". The new Áspero stays true to those early, simpler, days of true gravel, but with a few improvements: a threaded bottom bracket, tidier cable routing and a UDH-compatible derailleur mount for those who want to use SRAM drivetrains. And of course it's more aerodynamic. In the case of Áspero however, aerodynamic performance is not so much about speed as it is about saving energy, achieved through reduced aerodynamic drag. After a busy day with vento opposite, the three watts saved compared to the previous Experiment could equate to one less energy gel that your stomach will have to digest - Seeing is believing!
In addition to the reduction in drag, we also lowered the chainstays to give a little more grip on the rear and slightly reduced the stiffness of the front end to make the last hours of those really long races less painful. We've also added a little more mud clearance between the lowered chainstays, building on what we've learned from the R5-CX (and 2023's Unbound mudfest). That's a lot of seemingly small improvements, but they add up to many more. The result is a bike that looks a lot like the original Áspero but is actually faster, more comfortable and more versatile.
T47 BOTTOM BRACKET
Áspero uses the asymmetrical bottom bracket with T47a thread that we pioneered on the R5-CX. It is a simple and handy interface that allows us to offer the benefits of BBRight in a more user-friendly form.
UNIVERSAL DERAILLEUR HANGAR
We used SRAM 's Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) as standard on the new Áspero. It is ideal if you want to make the most of your driving experience with the latest SRAM transmissions and at the same time be sure of compatibility with future transmission developments.
EASY AND CUSTOMIZABLE FRONT END
Áspero shares the same bearing sizes as the R5, Soloist, R5-CX and Caledonia, meaning you can use any combination of headset and stem. Do you want a super-racing and fully integrated look ? Take the ST31 and HB13 models of R5.
