Active temperature compensation across the entire range
Measurement accuracy is of course the most important feature in a potentiometer. Stages Power was the first product to offer automatic temperature compensation, guaranteeing its athletes a correct power measurement in any condition. Individual calibration for an accurate result every time
The Stages potentiometers are calibrated to offer an accuracy percentage of +/- 1.5%, this is the best level of accuracy in the cycling industry for a non-scientific meter. Stages Power LR calibrates its two sensors separately, thus ensuring a real, non-approximate power measurement.

The new potentiometer
Until now, there were some frames that were not compatible with Stages Power potentiometers, such as Cervelo P5 and all frames equipped with brakes mounted behind the bottom bracket. Honed over the course of nearly a decade, the third-generation power meter electronics feature state-of-the-art Radio hardware for an excellent signal, which ensures that power data consistently and reliably reaches the computer, as well as an LED status indicator that shows pairing and battery status at a glance.

Active Temperature Compensation
Measuring power is a relatively easy task in a controlled environment. However, problems arise when the measurement has to be carried out in an environment with varying temperatures and exposed to atmospheric agents. The strain gauges that are used to measure power, whatever the system used, are drastically affected by temperature changes. If a potentiometer fails to account for temperature changes, the measured data will be completely inaccurate. For this reason, Stages has developed a system that solves this problem with ease.

Raincoat
Like temperature fluctuations, humidity is a reality in cycling, caused by high sweltering heat or the frost of cold rains. Stages power meters are designed to meet and exceed the IPX7 standard for water resistance. They have been extensively tested within the Boulder, Colorado facility, as well as on roads and trails.

ANT+ and Bluetooth – Works with everything
Stages was the first brand to offer ANT+ and Bluetooth transmission protocols. This simplifies the setup process and ensures that the power meters are compatible with a wide range of other devices, including Smart Trainers, phones, GPS computers, and more. This also provides two-way communication for Wireless Firmware updates.

Mechanical moment
To measure the Mechanical Moment, Stages strain gauges are placed along the crank. These sensors, which are the same ones used in the aerospace industry, can detect even the slightest bending in the stiffest of cranks. The importance of this depends on the fact that, each pedal stroke, causes a minimal flex of the crank. This downward force is imprinted on the crank with each rotation. This force, multiplied by 9.8 m/s2 and the length of the crank, is used to measure the force applied to pedaling, i.e. its Mechanical Movement.

Cadence
Thanks to the use of an accelerometer (the same technology used to tell your smartphone how to orient the screen), the potentiometer always measures cadence accurately. Thanks to a special patent, Stages Power proceeds to the measurement of cadence without the use of magnets, external sensors or cables. This technology allows the Stages potentiometer to record more positions, allowing it to be more responsive and improving the quality of data collection. Once the cadence and mechanical moment are recorded, the sensor multiplies them to determine the Power. Based on the fact that the left leg produces the same power as the right, the value is then doubled. Thanks to this system, Stages Cycling manages to offer the most compact, lightest, strongest and most economical potentiometer on the market.
