The Edge 1040 will be the pinnacle of the Garmin Edge range, and its capabilities and design represent the best Garmin can offer in terms of performance monitoring and riding, bike-specific navigation, cycling awareness, and connection capabilities. Edge 1040 includes a feature set focused on Cyclist Skill Analysis during training and helping to manage Stamina effort. This will include a specific power management guide with Power Guide and a marked improvement to the ClimbPro feature to help you evaluate your effort during climbs.

Skill Analysis

What is known about the cyclist (user profile), his training (Training History) and his performance (VO2 / FTP / Power Curve) is used to classify him into established categories of cyclists: Sprinter, Endurance Specialist, Passista, Passista Climber, Pure Sprinter, Climber, All Rounder. You will then be able to see how the skills correspond to the needs of the paths you choose to follow competitively, and know where to concentrate your efforts in training.

Power Guide

By entering the elevation profile and the type of surface of the route, the weight of the equipment and the riding position (china, aero, comfortable) what is known about the rider's FTP/power curve is used to map the segments and offer the power target during the route. The Power Guide can be created on the device and Garmin Connect. The effort level can be adjusted to dynamically change the Power Guide plan on the Edge to more or less effort.

Stamina

Training history, VO2 Max, breastfed threshold, and recovery status are used to calculate your stamina level while running. Basically it is indicated how much fuel is in the tank.

The values are as follows:

• Potential Stamina (the fuel tank in general) shown in %.

• Royal Stamina (how much is left in the tank continuing to strain). Shown in%.

• Stamina / Stamina Time Distance: How long we expect you to continue to play at your current level of effort.

• We also show when you are recharging (green) or draining (orange) reserves – especially useful with periods of active effort/recovery that are common in cycling.

Training Plans

Support for new training goals based on the power curve and dual training goals: When following a Garmin training plan, users are required to complete a priority workout they skipped instead of offering a lower priority workout scheduled for that day. This allows cyclists to set primary and secondary goals for training phases in the most complex sessions. For example: lap 5 min. at 200 W and point at 90 rpm. The Garmin Connect training plans will add support to mark workouts within a plan as "key" or "long" to facilitate rescheduling workouts for lost workouts. Schedules sent to devices will be updated to include these training tags to allow the on-device experience of lost workouts.

Security and tracking features

LiveTrack to allow friends and family to follow you remotely (including seeing where you're headed and where you've been, via power, cadence, heart, speed, and elevation graphs).
