The Zipp 303 Firecrest® wheels are designed for the real world... a world of imperfect conditions and uneven surfaces. Efficiency = speed. These wheels are faster and lighter on a variety of terrains, paved or unpaved.

When it comes to going fast, efficiency is reduced: vento resistance, rolling resistance, rider fatigue, weight, etc. The 303 Firecrest wheels were designed using direct measurements from the real world (as opposed to a vento tunnel or computer simulation). The results were impressive. Its rim is slightly more protruding than the previous version, with an external width of 30 mm, an internal width of 25 mm and a rim depth of 40 mm. The profile offers low drag and a better transition between rim and tire, increasing aerodynamic efficiency on the road.

Firecrest

With the new Firecrest profile rim in the 202, 303, 404 and 808 wheels, Zipp makes more of a difference than ever. Not only does it have a more aerodynamic profile than any other rim, but it improves handling with the transverse vento and driving qualities.

ABLC (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control)

Advanced Boundary Layer Control (ABLC) refers to the patented and instantly recognizable pattern found on all carbon Zipp rims. ABLC smooths the airflow on the rim surface and fits all models, from 202 to Super-9 Disc. The third generation of ABLCs has up to four times more dimples than before.

AeroBalance

Zipp's only mission is to help you go faster. For years, Zipp has used a combination of testing methods – vento gallery, CFD computer simulations, professional athlete evaluations, road tests and the RollingRoad racing simulator – to refine aerodynamic performance to new levels of excellence. Over the decades of innovation, Zipp engineers have learned to look beyond simply reducing drag. Instead, the goal now is to reduce drag while minimizing the effects of crosswinds on handling. This optimization of aerodynamic efficiency and crosswind stability has become known internally at Zipp as AeroBalance. The approach began with Firecrest technology and was advanced with the introduction of the NSW line, especially with the Sawtooth technology found in the 454 and 858 NSW. Sawtooth accomplishes this with a series of patented fin-shaped Hyperfoil knots along the inner diameter of the rim that work together with the new HexFin ABLC dimples to improve airflow.

TSE Technology

Zipp's TSE (Total System Efficiency) technology was developed by Zipp engineers in the Nest Advanced Development Lab. This approach to carbon wheel manufacturing means that the precise rim layering of the 303 Firecrest results in higher efficiency for higher speed through reduction: vento resistance, rolling resistance, gravity (weight + durability), vibration losses.
