With this latest generation garment, the Alpha Double RoS Jacket, we think we have improved our best jacket. Even the best fabrics on the market guarantee a good level of breathability, but it cannot do anything against the sweat generated during high-intensity workouts. So we invented a double-layer construction that allows you to open an outer layer of vento protection while keeping the insulation layer closed, so that the airflow inside the jacket can evaporate moisture while avoiding direct contact with the skin. On a long climb, we will fully open the outer layer to allow moisture to escape, while when we begin the descent, we will close this layer, feeling completely dry on the inside. It works so well that sometimes it really feels like magic. In this new generation, we have used a softer and warmer Polartec® Alpha Direct insulation layer. Next, we made small changes to the openings: neck, waist and, most importantly, wrists. The neck is high and is shaped to move with you, both when you stand up on the pedals and when you get into an aerodynamic position transforming into a January hero attacking his fellow riders. For the waist, we created a stretch layer with a silicone tape that flattens out and keeps the vento out completely without wrinkling or lifting. We've made some updates to the double-layer wrist opening, with an inner layer that goes under the glove and seals it perfectly at the wrist, and an outer layer that goes over the glove, so that rain slides off the outside of the glove and doesn't get inside. This jacket will hold up well even in rainy conditions, so we used GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® fabric along with waterproof taped seams on the critical seams around the shoulders. Other seams are hidden from direct water flow, and the water-repellent treatment on the fabric is enough to prevent most of the moisture from entering. We call it "essentially waterproof," using our subjective judgment to strike a balance between water protection, breathability, and comfort. That doesn't mean no drop will ever seep in, but we did long rides in the pouring rain and stayed totally dry. All of these features make it the favorite of our staff and most of our ambassadors, and the most versatile jacket for high-quality performance during cold weather training we've ever created.
