We have pushed the limit to improve our lightweight shorts since 2011, but we had to be careful not to compromise durability in the search for a lighter weight and so we looked for a better way.

We have examined what the shorts must guarantee: it must keep the pad in place and at the same time it must be made of the minimum possible amount of fabric to reduce its weight, without obviously being transparent, plus it must withstand at least one season of intense use. So we developed a new fabric, using a woven weave instead of knitting that reduces weight by 30%, ensuring the same level of support without being transparent. Then, we worked with the best fabric manufacturer in the world to build a fabric that would become lighter towards the bottom of the leg, with the end weighing only 90 g/m2 compared to the normal fabric used for shorts weighing approximately 220 g/m2.

This fabric, despite being incredibly light, maintains good durability and also boasts good resistance to abrasion, at least those of the saddle. Note that if dry you gain just 48 grams, while sweaty absorbs about 30% of moisture. So while climbing Alpe d'Huez you will actually be saving about 150 grams.

This shorts does not compromise comfort. We used our best Project X2 Air Seamless seamless chamois and the spectacular striped mesh suspenders of the Free Aero Race 4 model and a flat, stretchy, non-slip leg bottom that keeps the shorts in place.
